Important Formulas Boats Streams

1. The direction along the stream is known as downstream and the direction against the stream is known as upstream.

2. Speed of boat in downstream direction=Speed of boat in still water + Speed of the stream

3. Speed of boat in upstream direction=Speed of boat in still water - Speed of the stream

4. If the downstream speed is X km/hr and upstream speed is Y km/hr, then :

Speed in still water = 1/2(X+Y) km/hr

Rate of Stream = 1/2(X-Y) km/hr
