• Jimmy Carter, who served as the
39th President of the US, passed away Sunday in his home in Plains, Georgia,
The Carter Center announced. He was 100.
• The Indian Space Research
Organisation(ISRO) is all set with its Space Docking experiment known as the
SpaDex mission. Its powerhorse rocket PSLV C60 will lift off tonight from
spaceport Sriharikota in Andhra Pradesh.
• In Chess, India’s Koneru
Humpy wins her second women’s title beating Indonesia’s Irene Sukander in
the World Rapid and Blitz Championship held in New York.

• Former Prime Minister Dr
Manmohan Singh passed away in New Delhi last night. He was 92. Dr Singh
breathed his last at All India Institute of Medical Sciences, Delhi.

Former Home Secretary Ajay Kumar Bhalla appointed as the new Governor of
Manipur. VK Singh, a retired Army Chief and a former minister in the
previous Narendra Modi-led government, has been appointed the new Mizoram
Governor. There has been a swap of states for Governors of Kerala and Bihar
- Arif Mohammed, the Kerala Governor, is now the Governor of Bihar, and
Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar, Governor of Bihar, is now in charge of Kerala.

• Renowned filmmaker Shyam
Benegal died on Monday after days of suffering from a chronic kidney-related
disease. Shyam Benegal was known for films like Ankur, Mandi, Manthan and
more, most of which were released in the mid-70s or 80s, and came to be
known as part of parallel cinema in India.
• Retired Supreme Court judge
V. Ramasubramanian has been appointed as the new chairperson of the National
Human Rights Commission (NHRC) today.
• National Farmers' Day is being
observed across the nation today.
• In the United States, President-elect
Donald Trump has appointed Indian-American entrepreneur Sriram Krishnan as
the Senior White House Policy Advisor on Artificial Intelligence, AI.

• Kuwait has bestowed its highest
honour, the Order of Mubarak Al Kabeer, to Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The
Order of Mubarak Al Kabeer is a knighthood order of Kuwait.
• In Women’s
Cricket, India clinched the inaugural Under-19 ACC Women’s T20 Asia Cup
title at Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, after defeating Bangladesh by 41 runs in
the final.
• The Union Transport Minister today inaugurated India’s First
National Highway constructed using Bio- Bitumen material in Nagpur-Mansar
Bypass project of National Highway 44 in Nagpur District.
• Union Railway
and Information and Broadcasting Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw today conferred
the 69th Ati Vishisht Rail Seva Award 2024 to 101 employees and officers for
their exceptional contributions to the Indian Railways.

• The bills related to One Nation

• India has
become the 3rd largest exporter of smartphones in the world, which was on
the 23rd rank in 2019. The country’s smartphone exports have also breached
the 20 thousand crore rupees mark in a single month, in November 2024.

India off-spinner R Ashwin announced his retirement from all formats of
cricket on Wednesday after the end of the third Test of the Border-Gavaskar
Trophy.

• Renowned tabla maestro and
Grammy Award winner Ustad Zakir Hussain passed away on Sunday in a US
hospital following a heart ailment. The Padma Vibhushan Zakir Hussain had
been suffering from blood pressure issues. He was 73 years old.
• Vijay
Diwas, observed today to commemorates India’s decisive victory over Pakistan
in the 1971 Indo-Pak War.
• In Hockey, India won the Women’s Junior Asia
Cup 2024 championship in Muscat, Oman last night. In the title clash, the
Indian team defeated China 3-2 in a penalty shootout to successfully defend
its title.
• Mumbai has won the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2024. In the
final match last night, Mumbai registered a five-wicket victory over Madhya
Pradesh at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru.

• India's D Gukesh became the
youngest-ever world champion on Thursday, December 12. The 18-year-old
defeated China's Ding Liren in the decisive Game 14 to clinch the
prestigious title.
• Forbes 2024 list of The Worlds 100 Most Powerful
Women features three Indians Nirmala Sitharaman, Roshni Nadar Malhotra and
Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw.
• The Lok Sabha will begin a two-day debate today on
the Constitution to mark the beginning of the 75th year of its adoption in
the country.

• Sanjay Malhotra officially
assumed office as the 26th governor of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) for a
three-year term. A Princeton-educated revenue secretary and veteran
bureaucrat with over three decades of civil service experience, Malhotra
succeeds Shaktikanta Das, who served as RBI governor for six years.

Payal Kapadia's All We Imagine As Light bagged two nominations in Golden
Globe Awards 2025, including Best Director (Motion Picture) and Best
Non-English Language Motion Picture.
• The Lok Sabha today passed the
Railways (Amendment) Bill 2024 with a voice vote. The bill seeks to amend
the Railways Act 1989 and is intended to enhance the power of the Railways
Board and improve the functioning and independence of the body.

President Droupadi Murmu today conferred National Panchayat Awards 2024,
organised by Ministry of Panchayati Raj at Vigyan Bhawan in New Delhi. A
total of 45 awardees were conferred this year under various categories.

of the transitional government.
• US President-elect Donald Trump has
named Republican Party activist Harmeet Dhillon to be the Assistant Attorney
General for civil rights.

• Revenue Secretary Sanjay
Malhotra has been appointed Governor of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI). He
will take charge from Wednesday for three years, the government said in a
statement.
• In Men’s Asia Cup Under-19 Cricket, Bangladesh has defeated
India in the final to lift the cup.

• Armed Forces Flag Day being

• England became the first side in the 147-year history
of Test cricket to score 500,000 runs in Test cricket. This is England's

• BJP leader Devendra Fadnavis
today took oath as the Chief Minister of Maharashtra along with two deputy

• The Indian Space Research Organisation's (ISRO)
workhorse rocket PSLV successfully lifted off with the European Space Agency
(ESA) Proba-3 satellite from Sriharikota.

• The Lok Sabha has passed the
Banking Laws (Amendment) Bill, 2024. The Bill seeks to increase the option
for nominees per bank account to four, from the existing one. The bill also
proposes to redefine substantial interest for directorships, which could
increase to two crore rupees instead of the current limit of five lakh
rupees.
• South Korea President Yoon Suk Yeol declares martial law for
first time since 1980.

• US President-elect Donald Trump
has nominated Indian-American Kash Patel to lead the Federal Bureau of
Investigation (FBI). With this appointment, Mr. Patel became the second
Indian American to be picked in his cabinet.
• World AIDS Day is observed
today. The theme for World AIDS Day 2024, “Take the rights path: My health,
my right!”.
• The BCCI's outgoing secretary Jay Shah took charge as the
chairman of the International Cricket Council, becoming the fifth Indian to
head the global body.
