• The Mahakumbh 2025 in Prayagraj
successfully concluded last night with the final holy dip on the
Mahashivratri. Over 66 crore 30 lakh devotees have taken the holy dip so far
across the 45-day-long spiritual mega event.
• Defence Research and
Development Organisation (DRDO) and the Indian Navy carried out successful
flight trials of the first-of-its-kind Naval Anti-Ship missile (NASM-SR)
from the Integrated Test Range (ITR) in Chandipur, Odisha.

Governor Shaktikanta Das has been appointed Principal Secretary to Prime

• Indian conservationist Purnima Devi Barman has
made it to Time magazine's Women of the Year 2025 list for her exceptional
contribution to wildlife conservation. Ms Devi Barman, from Assam, is the
only Indian woman featured on the prestigious list with 12 other global
honorees.

• BJP’s first-time MLA Rekha
Gupta was sworn in as the new Chief Minister of Delhi at Ramlila Maidan in
the national capital this afternoon.
• Star pacer Mohammed Shami became
the fastest Indian bowler to reach 200 ODI wickets during the ICC Champions
Trophy match against Bangladesh here on Thursday. 5126 Number of balls
Mohammed Shami took to take 200 ODI wickets, the fewest for any bowler,
beating Mitchell Starc's record of 5240 balls. In terms of matches played,
Shami is joint-second fastest with Saqlain Mushtaq on 104 ODIs, while Starc
took his 200th wicket in his 102nd ODI.
• The Government extended the
tenure of Chief Economic Adviser (CEA) V. Anantha Nageswaran for two years
till March 2027.

• Election Commissioner Gyanesh
Kumar, the senior of the two election commissioners after Chief Election
Commission Rajiv Kumar, will succeed him. Mr Kumar, a 1988-batch IAS officer
from Kerala cadre, was part of the Union Home Ministry.
• Jacob Kiplimo
from Uganda has made history in the half-marathon. He became the first
person to run the race in under 57 minutes on Sunday. Kiplimo finished in 56
minutes, 42 seconds in Barcelona.

holds bilateral talks with US President Donald Trump at White House.

The Income-Tax Bill 2025 was introduced in the Lok Sabha on Thursday. The
Bill aims at consolidating and amending the law relating to income tax.

Manipur has been placed under President's Rule following the resignation of
N Biren Singh as the Chief Minister.
• The 38th National Games in
Uttarakhand will conclude today. Currently, the Services Sports Control
Board leads the medal tally, achieving the feat for the fifth time in the
last six editions. Their overall count now stands at 68 gold, 26 silver, and
27 bronze medals. Maharashtra holds second place with 54 gold, 71 silver,
and 73 bronze medals, while Haryana follows in third with 48 gold, 47
silver, and 58 bronze medals.

• The 32nd session of the
Indian Art History Congress begins in Noida today. The conference aims to be

artistic and performative representations of the epics.
• India has
achieved a historic milestone by surpassing 100 GW of installed solar power
capacity, reinforcing its position as a global leader in renewable energy.

• The Reserve Bank of India (RBI)
has reduced its key repo rate for the first time in nearly five years to
boost the economy. The RBI Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) has unanimously
decided to cut the key rate by 25 bps from 6.5% to 6.25%.

Asian Winter Games (AWG) 2025 will kick off at Harbin in China this evening.

• India
has defended their ICC Under-19 Women’s T20 World Cup title, beating South
Africa by 9 wickets in the final match at the Bayuemas Oval in Kuala Lumpur,
Malaysia.

• Finance Minister Nirmala
Sitharaman today presented the first full-fledged budget of the third term
of the NDA government. Presenting the budget in Lok Sabha, the finance
minister announced that the Nil Tax Slab is now extended up to 12 lakh
rupees income. Ms. Sitharaman also introduced new income tax slabs in the
new regime of taxation.
• The Centre has announced the addition of four
new Ramsar sites in India, taking the tally to 89. The government announced
that Sakkarakottai Bird Sanctuary and Therthangal Bird Sanctuary in Tamil
Nadu, Khecheopalri Wetland in Sikkim, and Udhwa Lake in Jharkhand have been
included in the list of Ramsar sites in the country.
• Niger becomes the
first country in the African Region to eliminate onchocerciasis.
