• Manchester City and Spain midfielder Rodri bagged the Ballon d'Or 2024 title, beating Real Madrid duo Vinicius Jr. and Jude Bellingham to the top podium spot.

• Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his Spanish counterpart, President Pedro Sanchez, on Monday inaugurated India's first private military transport aircraft production plant in Gujarat's Vadodra. It is India's first final assembly line in the private aviation industry.
• Rachel Gupta from Punjab, became the first Indian to clinch the prestigious Miss Grand International 2024 title on October 25, standing out among contestants from over 70 countries.

• President of India Droupadi Murmu on Thursday appointed Justice Sanjiv Khanna as the next Chief Justice of India (CJI). Justice Khanna, who is currently the senior-most judge in the top court, will succeed incumbent CJI DY Chandrachud and assume the position on November 11, 2024.
• German Chancellor Olaf Scholz arrived India as part of his three-day official visit to India.

• President Droupadi Murmu conferred the 5th National Water Awards 2023 in New Delhi. The awards were presented to 38 winners in nine categories.
• Union Cabinet has approved the setting up of a 1000 crore rupees Venture Capital Fund dedicated to the space sector.

• Vijaya Rahatkar has been appointed as the Chairperson of National Commission for Women NCW.
• In Indonesia, Prabowo Subianto took over as president of the world's third-largest democracy.
• New Zealand are the champions of the Women’s T20 World Cup 2024 after beating Laura Wolvaardt’s South Africa by 32 runs in the final on Super Sunday at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium.

• Nayab Singh Saini took oath as Haryana's Chief Minister today for the second time, marking the BJP's record third consecutive term in power in the state.
• Chief Justice of India Justice DY Chandrachud has recommended the appointment of Justice Sanjiv Khanna, the most senior judge of the Supreme Court, as his successor. Upon approval by the government, Justice Khanna will become the 51st Chief Justice of India.
• The Supreme Court, by a 4:1 majority, upheld the constitutional validity of Section 6A of the Citizenship Act, 1955, that grants citizenship to immigrants who entered Assam between January 1, 1966, and March 25, 1971.
• Over 446 butterfly species have been spotted at the Kaziranga National Park making it the second highest in the country with the highest number of butterflies . Namdapha National Park in Arunachal Pradesh.

• India has signed a deal with the US for the procurement of 31 MQ-9B High Altitude Long Endurance UAV manufactured by General Atomics. The two countries signed a deal worth Rs 32,000 crore for the acquisition of 31 predator drones, along with the establishment of a maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) facility in India.
• National Conference leader Omar Abdullah has been sworn in as the Chief Minister as the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir.

• Daron Acemoglu, Simon Johnson and James Robinson won the 2024 Nobel economics prize "for studies of how institutions are formed and affect prosperity".
• The government has decided to withdraw its High Commissioner in Canada after Ottawa linked him and some other Indian diplomats to the killing of Khalistani terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar.

• The Norwegian Nobel Committee awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for 2024 to Nihon Hidankyo, a Japanese organisation of atomic bomb survivors. Nihon Hidankyo, short for the "Japan Confederation of A- and H-Bomb Sufferers Organisations", represents the survivors (known as hibakusha) of the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki.
• Dussehra is celebrated today which signifies the victory of good over evil.
• The government has approved the upgradation of Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) to 14th Maharatna, Central Public Sector Enterprises.
• The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) has said that Indian suppliers are the third largest provider of organisation’s health and ration support to children globally.

• South Korean writer Han Kang, was awarded 2024 the Nobel Prize in Literature, "for her intense poetic prose that confronts historical traumas and exposes the fragility of human life."
• Rafael Nadal, one of tennis’ all-time greats, has announced his retirement from the sport, drawing the curtain on a storied career that saw him capture 22 Grand Slam titles.
• Noel Tata, the half-brother of Ratan Tata, has been appointed Chairman of Tata Trusts, following a board meeting held in Mumbai today. Noel succeeds Ratan Tata who died at the age of 86 in a Mumbai hospital on Wednesday.

• Ratan Tata, chairman emeritus of one of India's biggest conglomerates, Tata Sons, has died at 86.He had been undergoing treatment at a private hospital and was in critical condition.
• Scientists David Baker, John Jumper, and Demis Hassabis have won the 2024 Nobel Prize in Chemistry for breakthroughs in predicting and designing the structure of proteins.
• The Indian women's team made history by securing a monumental bronze medal at the Asian Table Tennis Championships in Astana, Kazakhstan. This is country's first-ever medal in the women's team category.

• Counting of votes is underway for the assembly elections in Haryana - where the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is eyeing a straight third term. In Jammu and Kashmir, the National Conference-Congress alliance appears poised to form Government.
• Scientists Victor Ambros and Gary Ruvkun won the 2024 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine for the discovery of microRNA and its role in gene regulation.
• The Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences, Stockholm, announced J. Hopfield and Geoffrey E. Hinton have been awarded the Nobel Prize in Physics for 2024 for foundational discoveries and inventions that enable machine learning with artificial neural networks.
• Indian Air Force (IAF) Day is observed today. This year, the IAF celebrates its 92nd anniversary under the theme “Bhartiya Vayu Sena – Saksham, Sashakt, Atmanirbhar”.

• Mumbai won their 15th Irani Cup title on Saturday, beating the Rest of India on the basis of a first-innings lead.
• Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) has successfully conducted three flight tests of the 4th Generation Very Short Range Air Defence System (VSHORADS) at the Pokhran Field Firing Ranges in Rajasthan.
