• Veteran Bollywood actor Mithun Chakraborty will be honoured with the Dadasaheb Phalke Award. The actor will be felicitated with the award at the 70th National Film Awards ceremony which will be held on October 8, 2024.
• Indian cricket team star batter Virat Kohli added another record to his already illustrious career as he became the fastest player to reach 27000 international runs during Day 4 of the second Test against Bangladesh in Kanpur on Monday.
• Team India broke the record for fastest team fifty and fastest team hundred by getting there in three overs and ten overs respectively during day four of the second Test in Kanpur on Monday.

• India has moved up to 39th place among 133 global economies in the Global Innovation Index (GII) 2024.
• Food and Public Distribution Minister Pralhad Joshi has said that India has become the World’s third largest Producer and Consumer of Ethanol.
• World Tourism Day is being celebrated across the globe today. The Day is celebrated on 27th of September every year highlighting tourism's role in connecting people and boosting economies.

• Union Cabinet on Wednesday cleared the proposal for One Nation One Election. The bill for holding simultaneous polls is likely to be introduced in the upcoming winter session of Parliament.
• Voting in the first phase of the Assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir is underway with ballots being cast in 24 of the state's 90 constituencies.
• Union Cabinet on Wednesday (September 18, 2024) approved expansion of Chandrayaan-4 Mission to include preparatory measures for eventual manned moon mission. It also approved Venus Orbiter Mission. The decision was confirmed by Union Electronics Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw.

• The Union government has approved health coverage to everyone who is 70 and above under the national insurance scheme Ayushman Bharat. The Union Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in a statement said the Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB PM-JAY) will benefit 4.5 crore families with six crore senior citizens. The free cover is worth ₹ 5 lakh and will be on a family basis.
• In the US Open Tennis, Jannik Sinner clinched his second Grand Slam victory of the year by defeating Taylor Fritz 6-3, 6-4, 7-5.

• India's Praveen Kumar won the gold medal in the men's high jump T64 event at the 2024 Paris Paralympics, clearing 2.08 meters to claim his second consecutive Paralympic medal. The 21-year-old athlete from Noida, Uttar Pradesh, became only the second Indian, after Mariyappan Thangavelu, to win gold in Paralympic high jump competitions.
• French President Emmanuel Macron has named Michel Barnier as Prime Minister.
• At at Paris Paralympics 2024 India’s JudoKa Kapil Parmar won bronze medal in Para Judo men’s -60kg J1 category beating Brazil’s Elielton de Oliveira .This is the first medal in this event in India’s history of Paralympics.

• Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who is on a two-day visit to Singapore, held delegation-level talks with his Singaporean counterpart, Lawrence Wong, today.
• Teachers’ Day is being celebrated throughout the country today. President Droupadi Murmu confered National Awards to 82 teachers at Vigyan Bhawan in New Delhi today.
• At the Paris Paralympics 2024, Harvinder Singh created history by winning a Gold in the men’s archery individual recurve open final. He became the first and only Indian archer to clinch a gold medal at the Paralympics or Olympics.

• The Wokha SAATHI (Smart AI-based Assistant for Timely Help & Interface) WhatsApp Chatbot, an innovative initiative of the Wokha District Administration of Nagaland has been awarded the prestigious Gold Award at National Awards for e-Governance Scheme 2023-2024.
• The Indian contingent at Paris Paralympics surged past the record medal haul of 19 medals it had set at the Tokyo Paralympics three years back. In the space of half an hour early on Wednesday, the para athletics contingent won four medals to push the Indian medals tally to 20.
