• India's Kamalpreet Kaur secured a place in women's discus throw final. Kamalpreet, with a throw of 64m, was only the second athlete among 31 others to book a final berth via automatic qualification.
• Katie Ledecky of America became the first female swimmer to win six individual golds. The 24-year-old Ledecky made her Olympic debut in 2012 at the age of just 15 and is competing in her third career Olympic Games.
• PV Sindhu lost 18-21, 12-21 to Tai Tzu Ying in the women's singles semi-finals and will face He Bing Jiao for the bronze medal.
• Jamaica's Elaine Thompson-Herath won the women's 100m final with a time of 10.61 seconds.
• The Indian women's hockey team qualified for the quarterfinal after Great Britain beat Ireland 2-0 in the last Pool A group match, securing the 4th spot for India.

30th July, Current Affairs:

• Lovlina Borgohain defeated Chinese Taipei’s Nien-Chin Chen to help India secure its second medal at the Olympics. The 22-year-old boxer from Assam defeated her Chinese Taipei opponent by 4-1 to storm into the semifinals. Lovlina is third Indian boxer after Mary Kom and Vijender Singh to win boxing medal.
• PV Sindhu got the better of Japan's Akane Yamaguchi in straight games 21-13, 22-20 to enter the women's singles semifinals in Tokyo Olympics.
• CBSE 12th result 2021 declared. The pass percentage recorded in Class 12 results was 99.37.

29th July, Current Affairs:

• The central government has announced a 27% reservation for OBC, and a 10% reservation for Economically Weaker Sections (EWS) candidates in the All India Quota for undergraduate and postgraduate medical/dental courses (MBBS / MD / MS / Diploma / BDS / MDS) from the current academic year 2021-22 onwards.
• International Tiger Day is observed day.
• The Rajya Sabha today passed the Factoring Regulation (Amendment) Bill, 2021.

• World Nature Conservation Day is celebrated today. It is observed to raise awareness about healthy environment as the premise of a stable and healthy society.
• Basavaraj Bommai took oath as Karnataka Chief Minister today, succeeding BS Yediyurappa who resigned on Monday.
• Gujarat cadre IPS officer Rakesh Asthana appointed as the Delhi Police Commissioner. Mr. Asthana had earlier served as the Special Director of the Central Bureau of Investigation.
• The Union Cabinet, on July 28, cleared the Deposit Insurance and Credit Guarantee Corporation (Amendment Bill).

27th July, Current Affairs:

• Harappan-era city Dholavira, located in the Rann of Kutch in Gujarat, has been inscribed as a World Heritage Site (WHS) by the UNESCO heritage committee. With the addition of Rudreswara temple and Dholavira, India’s number of World Heritage sites has increased to 40.
• The Bharatiya Janata Party's (BJP) legislature party has elected Basavaraj S Bommai as the new chief minister of Karnataka.

26th July, Current Affairs:

• Veteran Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader BS Yediyurappa resigned as Karnataka Chief Minister. Chief Minister B.S. Yediyurappa submitted his resignation to Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot in Bengaluru.
• 22nd Anniversary of Kargil Vijay Diwas, is being celebrated today. The day marks the victory of Indian armed forces in Operation Vijay in 1999, when they evicted the infiltrators backed by Pakistani army from high outposts in Kargil sector.
• Japan's Momiji Nishiya became one of the youngest individual Olympic champions in history when she won the inaugural women's skateboarding gold at the age of 13 years and 330 days.

• Australian team creates new record in the women's 4x100m freestyle to win gold at the Tokyo Olympics, clocking 3mins 29.69 secs to better their own mark set three years ago.
• India’s wrestler Priya Malik has won a gold medal for the country at the World Cadet Wrestling Championship, which is taking place in Budapest, Hungary.
• The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) inscribed the 13th-century Ramappa Temple in Palampet, Telangana a ‘World Heritage Site’.

• Weightlifter Mirabai Chanu wins India's first medal at Tokyo Olympics. Mirabai Chanu ended India's 21-year wait for a weightlifting medal at the Olympics by clinching a silver medal in the 49kg category to open the country's account. She also becomes the first Indian weightlifter to win the silver medal at the Olympic Games.
• Chinese shooter Qian Yang wins 1st gold medal awarded at the Tokyo Olympics in the women's 10-meter air rifle.
• Brazil has suspended the clinical studies of Bharat Biotech's COVID-19 vaccine, Covaxin following termination of the company's agreement with its partner there.

• National Broadcasting Day is observed today.
• The Tokyo Olympic Games get underway with the scaled down opening ceremony. London Games bronze medallist Mary Kom and men's hockey team skipper Manpreet Singh led the Indian contingent at parade of nations during the Tokyo Olympics opening ceremony.
• Rajya Sabha Chairman Venkaiah Naidu suspended TMC MP Santanu Sen for the remaining period of the monsoon session for snatching papers from the hands of Union IT minister Ashwini Vaishnaw in Rajya Sabha.
• India managed ninth-place finishes in both the men's team and mixed team rankings of the Games archery competition at the Yumenoshima Park in Tokyo Olympics.
• 36 people have died in landslides in Maharashtra's Raigad district as incessant rain continued to batter the Konkan region of the state, leaving thousands stranded in floods and landslides.

• Eid al-Adha is observed today.
• Brisbane was announced as the host of the 2032 Olympics on Wednesday, thus becoming the third Australian city to host the Games. The Games will go back to Australia 32 years after 2000 Sydney Olympics. Melbourne hosted in 1956.
• The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) has successfully conducted the flight test of an indigenously developed fire and forget Man Portable Antitank Guided Missile (MPATGM).

• Japan sets new Internet speed world record with data transfers at 319Tbps. A team of researchers at Japan’s National Institute of Information and Communications Technology (NICT) used advanced fiber optic technology with a 4-core optical fibre of standard outer diameter of 0.125 mm to perform the speed test, breaking the previous record of 178 Tb/s set by engineers in Japan and Britain a year ago.

• The Indian Navy has received two MH-60R multi-role helicopters from the U.S., in a boost to its combat capabilities. India is procuring 24 of these helicopters from the U.S. government under the framework of foreign military sales.

• Indian Pulitzer Prize-winning photojournalist Danish Siddiqui was killed in clashes that broke out in Spin Boldak district of Kandahar city in Afghanistan.
• Xiaomi has overtaken Apple to become the second largest smartphone maker in the world. The South Korean smartphone maker Samsung still sits at the top with 19 per cent market share.

• The Union Government has approved a hike in Dearness Allowance (DA) and Dearness Relief (DR) benefits given to central government employees and pensioners from 17 per cent to 28 per cent.
• Union Minister of Textiles Piyush Goyal has been appointed the Leader of the House in Rajya Sabha. Goyal replaced Thawar Chand Gehlot, who took oath recently as the 19th Governor of Karnataka.
• West Indies batsman Chris Gayle become the first-ever batsman to breach the mark of 14,000 runs in T20s. He achieved the feat during the third T20I match between the West Indies and Australia in St Lucia.

13th July, Current Affairs:

• Nepali Congress president Sher Bahadur Deuba became Nepal’s Prime Minister for the fifth time after the Supreme Court’s intervention.
• Former Indian middle-order batsman Yashpal Sharma, who was also a member of the 1983 World Cup-winning team, passed away today after suffering a cardiac arrest. He was 66 years old.

• Lord Jagannath Rath Yatra begins today.
• Italy beat England 3-2 on penalties to win the Euro Cup 2020 after teams finished 1-1 at the end of extra time in a thrilling final at Wembley Stadium in England.
• Aeronautical engineer Sirisha Bandla became the third Indian-origin woman after Kalpana Chawla and Sunita Williams to fly into space when she joined British billionaire Richard Branson on Virgin Galactic's first fully crewed suborbital test flight from New Mexico.

• World Population Day is observed today.
• Former Union Minister Tawarchand Gehlot took oath as the 19th Governor of Karnataka.
• Around 50 diplomats and other staff members at the Indian consulate in Afghanistan's Kandahar have been evacuated in view of the intense fighting between Afghan force and Taliban near Kandahar city.
• The Uttar Pradesh government released the new population policy for 2021-2030. In the new population policy, a target has been set to bring the birth rate to 2.1 per thousand population by 2026 and to 1.9 by 2030.
• Argentina won their first major title in 28 years when an Angel Di Maria goal gave them a 1-0 win over Brazil and a record-equalling 15th Copa America.
• Novak Djokovic won a record-equalling 20th Grand Slam title and sixth Wimbledon with a four-set victory over Matteo Berrettini in the final by 6-7 (4), 6-4, 6-4, 6-3.
• Indian-American Samir Banerjee won the Wimbledon boys singles title after he defeated Victor Lilov of America by 7-5, 6-3 in the finals to lift the trophy at All England Club.

• Australian Ashleigh Barty won her first Wimbledon title after beating Karolina Pliskova 6-3, 6-7 (4/7), 6-3 in the Women's signal final.

• Kiren Rijiju took charge as the new law and justice minister. Anurag Thakur took charge as the Union Minister of Information and Broadcasting today. Bhupender Yadav takes charge as Minister of Forest and Environment. Jitendra Singh took charge as the new Union Science and Technology Minister.
• Former Himachal Pradesh chief minister and senior Congress leader Virbhadra Singh died in Shimla in the early hours of Thursday after a prolonged illness. He was 87.
• Japan has declared a state of emergency in Tokyo which will run throughout the Olympic Games, to combat COVID-19.

7th July, Current Affairs:

• Legendary actor Dilip Kumar passed away after a prolonged illness in Mumbai. He was 98. Dilip Kumar made his Hindi film debut in 1944 with the movie ‘Jwar Bhata’. He was awarded the prestigious Padma Bhushan award in 1991 for his outstanding contribution to Indian Cinema. Kumar was bestowed with Dadasaheb Phalke Award in 1994 and Padma Vibhushan in 2015.
• Union ministers Prakash Javadekar, Ravi Shankar Prasad, Ramesh Pokhriyal, Harsh Vardhan, Santosh Gangwar and others have resigned from their posts ahead of the major Cabinet reshuffle.Forty-three new ministers were sworn-in the Rashtrapati Bhavan otday evening.
• MC Mary Kom, the six-time world boxing champion, and Manpreet Singh, the men’s hockey team skipper, will be India’s flag-bearers at the opening ceremony of the Tokyo Olympics. For the first time, India is having two flag-bearers -- one male and one female.
• Haitian President Jovenel Moïse was assassinated after a group of unidentified people attacked his private residence.

• Bandaru Dattatraya, the Governor of Himachal Pradesh, will take over as Governor of Haryana. Hari Babu Kambhampati will be Mizoram Governor. Mangubhai Chhaganbhai Patel will be Governor of Madhya Pradesh. Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar has been named Governor of Himachal Pradesh.
• Goods and Services Tax (GST) collections in June fell to ₹92,849 crore from ₹1.02 lakh crore in May, marking the first time after eight months that indirect tax collections fell below the ₹1 lakh crore mark.

• Maana Patel has become the first female and only the third swimmer from India to qualify Tokyo Olympics 2021.
• Odia poet, Dr Rajendra Kishore Panda, has been awarded Kuvempu Rashtriya Puraskar 2020.
• India has been ranked at 10th position in the cybersecurity index in United Nation’s ITU Global Cybersecurity Agenda (GCA).
• Bharat Biotech's Covaxin is overall 77.8 per cent effective against Covid, the vaccine maker said today in a statement, citing the data from the third phase of clinical trials.

• National Doctors' Day is celebrated today in India. The day honours the birth and death anniversary of physician and second chief minister of West Bengal, Dr Bidhan Chandra Roy.
• Air Marshal Vivek Ram Chaudhari today took over as the Vice Chief of the Air Staff. The Air Marshal was commissioned in the Fighter stream of the IAF in 1982.
• Abhimanyu Mishra made history by becoming the youngest chess Grandmaster, breaking the record of 12 years and seven months set by Sergey Karjakin in 2002.
