• All universities have been directed to use NET score for admission to PhD programmes instead of conducting entrance tests, starting from the academic session 2024-2025.
• Sunrisers Hyderabad broke the record for the highest innings total in the Indian Premier League history. SRH posted 277/3 in 20 overs in Hyderabad against Mumbai Indians.

• Saudi Arabia officially joined the Miss Universe pageant with Rumy Alqahtani as the Islamic country's first-ever representative. This is the first time that Saudi Arabia will be participating in the Miss Universe beauty pageant.
• Pavan Davuluri, an IIT Madras alumni, was appointed the new head of Microsoft Windows and Surface.
• Mumbai has overtaken Beijing to claim the title of the Asian capital, with the highest number of billionaires for the first time, as per the latest Hurun Research Institute's global rich list.

• The festival of colours, Holi is being celebrated throughout the country today.
• Bharat Biotech International Ltd said it started clinical trials of the Tuberculosis vaccine MTBVAC on adults in India. This is the first vaccine against Tuberculosis derived from a human source by the Spanish bio-pharmaceutical company, Biofabri.

• Tuberculosis Day is celebrated today to increase public awareness about Tuberculosis. The first World TB Day was officially observed in 1983, and since then, it has become an annual event.
• More than 115 people were killed after terrorists opened fire and threw explosives at a concert hall near Moscow.

• King of Bhutan Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck conferred Bhutan’s highest civilian award, the Order of the Druk Gyalpo, on Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Thimpu.
• The Indian Space Research Organisation (Isro) successfully carried out the landing mission of its Reusable Launch Vehicle (RLV) named 'Pushpak' from the Aeronautical Test Range (ATR) in Challakere near Karnataka's Chitradurga.
• World Water Day is observed today. World Water Day 2024 is being celebrated under the theme ‘Water for Peace’.

• Finland remained the world's happiest country for a seventh straight year in an annual UN-sponsored World Happiness Report published on Wednesday. India ranked 126, the same as last year, in the happiness index.
• Union Minister Kiren Rijiju has been given an additional charge of the Ministry of Food Processing Industries after Union Minister and Rashtriya Lok Janshakti Party Chief Pashupati Kumar Paras resigned from the Union Cabinet yesterday.

• The 2024 general election for 543 Lok Sabha seats will be held in seven phases that will begin from April 19 and continue till June 1, Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar said.
• The Royal Challengers Bangalore wins the Women's Premier League 2024 after defeating Delhi Capitals by 8 wickets in Delhi.

• A high-level committee on 'one nation, one election' today submitted its report to President Droupadi Murmu. The high-level committee headed by former President Ram Nath Kovind has recommended simultaneous elections in India in its over 18,000-page report that it submitted to President Droupadi Murmu.
• The Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led high-level committee Thursday picked retired IAS officers Gyanesh Kumar and Sukhbir Singh Sandhu as the Election Commissioners.
• Mumbai clinch the Ranji Trophy for 42nd time after defeating Vidarbha by 169 runs in the final.

• BJP leader Nayab Singh Saini was sworn in as the new Chief Minister of Haryana, succeeding Manohar Lal Khattar.
• The State Bank of India (SBI) on Tuesday submitted the data of Electoral Bonds to the Election Commission of India (ECI).

• The government on Monday evening issued a notification for implementation of the contentious Citizenship Amendment Act. The CAA - which makes religion, for the first time, a test of Indian citizenship - was cleared by Parliament in December 2019.
• Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) successfully conducting the maiden flight test of the indigenously developed Agni-5 missile, dubbed Mission Divyastra with the Multiple Independently Targetable Re-entry Vehicle (MIRV) technology.
• Oppenheimer triumphed at the 96th Academy Awards winning seven of the 13 Oscars it was nominated for. It won Best Picture, Best Director for Christopher Nolan, Best Actor for Cillian Murphy and Best Supporting Actor for Robert Downey Jr. The film also won Best Original Score and several technical awards. Best Actress award went to Emma Stone for Poor Things which also scored three other Oscars.
• Renowned art director Nitin Desai, known for his work in films like 'Lagaan' and 'Jodhaa Akbar', was honoured posthumously at the 96th Academy Awards held at Dolby Theatre, Los Angeles, United States.
• Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the Haryana section of the Dwarka Expressway in Gurugram. The eight-lane high-speed expressway is India's first elevated highway.

• Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the Sela Tunnel as part of his day-long visit to Arunachal Pradesh. The Sela Tunnel will be the world's longest bi-lane tunnel at an elevation exceeding 13,000 feet. The tunnel, constructed at a cost of ₹ 825 crore, connects Tezpur to Tawang, near the Line of Actual Control (LAC) with China.
• Czech Republic's Krystyna Pyszkova won the coveted Miss World 2024 title at a grand event in Mumbai. Miss Lebanon Yasmina Zaytoun crown the first runner-up.

• Union Minister of Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare and Tribal Affairs, Arjun Munda, inaugurated the Agriculture Integrated Command and Control Center at Krishi Bhawan, Delhi.
• President Droupadi Murmu Friday awarded the prestigious President’s Standard to No. 45 Squadron and No. 221 Squadron, and the President’s Colours to 11 Base Repair Depot (BRD) and 509 Signal Unit (SU) of the IAF in a ceremony at IAF station, Hindan.
• India has won the fifth test match of the series against England by an inning and 64 runs at Dharamsala today. With this, India has clinched the five-match series 4-1.
• Veteran England pacer James Anderson became the first ever pacer to pick 700 Test wickets. Anderson achieved his feat after he dismissed Kuldeep Yadav on Saturday morning in Dharamsala.

• International Women’s Day is being celebrated today. The United Nations has designated this year's theme as ‘Invest in Women: Accelerate Progress’ with a focus on addressing economic disempowerment, while the campaign theme for this year is ‘Inspire Inclusion’.
• Maha Shivratri is being celebrated across the country today.
• France inscribes the right to abortion in its constitution as world marks International Women's Day.

• Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan launched India’s first state-run over-the-top (OTT) platform named ‘CSpace’ in Thiruvananthapuram.
• Kuldeep Yadav became the fastest Indian cricket team bowler to take 50 Test wickets with respect to ball taken. Kuldeep took just 1871 balls to reach the milestone with Axar Patel (2205) and Jasprit Bumrah (2520) behind him in the list. This was also the first time in India's Test history that a bowler was able to complete 50 Test wickets by bowling less than 2000 deliveries.

• Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated India's first metro line "under any mighty river" in Kolkata today. He unveiled the Howrah Maidan-Esplanade section of Kolkata Metro's East-West corridor. The 4.8-km Howrah Maidan-Esplanade section has been built at a cost of ₹4,138 crores.
• France has become the first country in the world to enshrine abortion rights in its constitution. The amendment states that there is a guaranteed freedom to abortion in France.
• A Kerala school has introduced Iris, the first generative AI teacher in India. Developed in collaboration with Makerlabs Edutech Private Limited, Iris marks a significant advancement in the integration of artificial intelligence in education. Unveiled at KTCT Higher Secondary School in Thiruvananthapuram, Iris is a humanoid designed to enhance the learning experience for students.
