• Prime Minister Narendra Modi today launched India’s first International Bullion Exchange at Gujarat International Finance Tech (GIFT) City in Gandhinagar.
• International Tiger Day is being celebrated today. There are a total of 51 Tiger reserves in India. According to the latest Tiger Census of 2018-19 conducted in India, 2,967 Tigers live in the country.

28th July, Current Affairs:

• India's first Indigenous Aircraft Carrier 'Vikrant' built by Cochin Shipyard handed over to Navy. The 262-meter-long aircraft carrier is the largest ever warship to be built in the country.
• The Chess Olympiad 2022 is being held at the Four Points by Sheraton Mahabalipuram Resort and Convention Centre in Mahabalipuram, Chennai. Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurates the 44th Chess Olympiad at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium.
• The Commonwealth Games 2022 begin in Birmingham, England. P. V. Sindhu and Manpreet Singh will be India’s flag-bearers at Birmingham. One of the highlights for India will be the women's cricket T20 squad, as this is the first time that women's cricket has been included in the Commonwealth Games. The event will be held till the 8th of August.
• Four times world champion Sebastian Vettel announced his retirement from Formula One at the end of the season.
• World Hepatitis Day and World Nature Conservation Day is observed today.

• Ms Droupadi Murmu was sworn in as 15th President of India today. She was administered oath by Chief Justice of India N. V. Ramana at the Central Hall of Parliament yesterday.
• Kargil Vijay Diwas is being celebrated across the country today.
• Five more Indian wetlands have got Ramsar recognition as wetlands of international importance. These include three wetlands in Tamil Nadu - Karikili Bird Sanctuary, Pallikaranai Marsh Reserve Forest and Pichavaram Mangrove, Pala wetland in Mizoram and Sakhya Sagar in Madhya Pradesh. There are now a total of 54 Ramsar sites in the country.
• The auction of 5G spectrum has commenced today.

• Neeraj Chopra became the first Indian javelin thrower to win a medal at the World Athletics Championship. He bagged a throw of 88.13 metres to finish second.
• Outgoing President Ram Nath Kovind addressed the nation on the eve of demitting office.

• The winners of the 68th National Film Awards were announced in New Delhi. Tamil movie “Soorarai Pottru” bagged national awards for the Best Feature Film, Best Actor, Best Actress, Best Background Score and the Best Screenplay at the 68th National Film Awards-2020. “Tanhaji: The Unsung Warrior” won the awards in the Best Actor, which went to Ajay Devgn. He shared the Best Actor award with Suriya, who got the recognition for “Soorarai Pottru”. Aparna Balamurali won the Best Actress award for her performance.
• Prime Minister Narendra Modi has unveiled India’s first passenger drone "Varuna".
• The Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) observed the 162nd Income Tax Day (also known as Aaykar Diwas) today.
• President Ranil Wickremesinghe has appointed Dinesh Gunawardena as the new and 15th Prime Minister of Sri Lanka.

• Indian captain Rohit smashed the 250th six of his ODI career during the first ODI of the three-match series against England. He becoming the first Indian batter to reach the milestone. Only Pakistan's Shahid Afridi (351), West Indies' Chris Gayle (331), and Sri Lanka's Sanath Jayasuriya (270) have hit more sixes than the Indian captain.

• Boris Johnson resign as British Prime Minister.
• Former Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe died after being shot at in the chest while delivering an election campaign speech on a street in Nara, western Japan. Shinzo Abe served twice as Japan's prime minister, first from 2006 to 2007 and again from 2012 to 2020.
• Gujarat will host the 36th National Games 2022 — for the first time — starting September 27 to October 10, 2022.
• Rohit becoming the first captain to record 13 successive wins in T20Is as a skipper. Rohit Sharma also became the fastest Indian player to reach the landmark of 1,000 T20I runs as a captain.
