30th June-2024, Current Affairs:
• India defeated South Africa by 7
runs in the final match of T20 World Cup 2024 at the Kensington Oval,
Barbados on Saturday to clinch an ICC title after 11 years. Virat Kohli has
won the Player of the Match in the final. Jasprit Bumrah named Player of the
Tournament.
• Virat Kohli announces retirement from T20 Internationals
after India's T20 World Cup win. Virat Kohli finished with a tally of 4188
in 125 matches at an average of 48.69.
• India skipper Rohit Sharma
announced his retirement from T20 Internationals after guiding the team to
its second World Cup in the format. Rohit leaves T20Is with 4231 runs from
159 matches, having made five hundreds and 32 fifties.
• The Indian
women's cricket team created history on the opening day of the Test match
against South Africa as the Harmanpreet Kaur-led side scored a mammoth 525
for the loss of four wickets. It was the most runs scored by any team in a
day's play in Test history (both men and women).

• In Cricket, India stormed into the
final of Men’s T20 World Cup after thrashing defending champions England by
68 runs in the semi-final in Guyana last night.
• India captain Rohit
Sharma breaks Babar Azam's record to become the most successful captain in
the history of T20Is with 49 wins to his name from 61 matches.
• Booker
Prize-winning author Arundhati Roy honoured with the prestigious Pen Pinter
Prize 2024 for her “unflinching and unswerving” writings. The prize,
established in 2009 by the charity English PEN, defends freedom of
expression and celebrates literature in memory of Nobel-Laureate playwright
Harold Pinter.

• WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange
walked out of the Belmarsh prison in the UK after he was due to plead guilty
this week to violating US espionage law, in a deal that ended his
imprisonment in the country and allowed him to return home to Australia.
• The Centre has today begun the auction of spectrum worth more than Rs
96,000 crore for telecom services to augment existing telecom services and
maintain continuity of services.
• Kozhikode in north Kerala, known for
its rich cultural heritage, was on Sunday officially declared as India's
first UNESCO 'City of Literature'.
• India is ranked 129th out of 146
countries in the 2024 Global Gender Gap Index.

• The first session of the 18th Lok
Sabha begin from today. During the session, the oath and affirmation of
newly elected members take place.
• Bhartruhari Mahtab, a seven-time
Member of Parliament, was sworn in as pro-tem Speaker for the 18th Lok Sabha
today. President Droupadi Murmu administered the oath to the Bharatiya
Janata Party (BJP) MP from Cuttack.
• Union Health Minister and senior
BJP leader JP Nadda has been appointed as the Leader of the House in the
Rajya Sabha today.
• Australia’s Pat Cummins became the first bowler to
pick two T20 World Cup hat-tricks during the Super Eight encounter against
Afghanistan at Kingstown, St. Vincent on Sunday. It was the second hat-trick
in as many matches for Cummins who had picked one against Bangladesh in the
previous Super Eight encounter.
22nd June-2024, Current Affairs:
• In a move to curb paper leaks and
cheating in public examinations, the government on Friday introduced the
Public Examinations (Prevention of Unfair Means) Act, 2024. The law entails
provisions for a maximum jail term of 10 years and a fine of up to 1 crore
rupees for offenders. The Act aims to prevent unfair means in the public
examinations conducted by the Union Public Service Commission, Staff
Selection Commission, National Testing Agency (NTA), Railway Recruitment
Board, and banking recruitment examination bodies, among others.
• The
education ministry on Saturday announced that a high-level committee of
experts has been constituted to ensure transparent, smooth, and fair conduct
of examinations by the National Testing Agency (NTA). The seven-member panel
will be headed by former Isro chief Dr K Radhakrishnan.
• The first
session of the 18th Lok Sabha will begin on Monday. During the session, the
oath and affirmation of newly elected members will take place.
• India
and Bangladesh today exchanged agreements and renewed multiple Memoranda of
Understanding (MoUs) in different fields. These agreements include those in
the areas of digital and green partnerships, maritime cooperation, the blue
economy, health and medicine, space collaboration, railway connectivity,
oceanography, disaster management, and fisheries.

• The 10th International Day of Yoga
is being celebrated across the globe today. The theme of this year’s Yoga
Day is -‘Yoga for Self and Society’.
• The Ministry of Education has
cancelled the UGC-NET exam, conducted by the National Testing Agency, just a
day after it was held. Over 9 lakh candidates had appeared for the exam,
which is held for Assistant Professor posts in universities and colleges and
to determine eligibility for junior research fellowships.

• The Post Office Act, 2023 has
officially come into effect on Tuesday. The Act replaced the Indian Post
Office Act, 1898. As per the provisions of the Act, the government can
intercept an article transmitted through India Post on specified grounds,
including security of the state and public order.
• Globally acclaimed
film-maker Vinod Ganatra has become the first Indian to be conferred the
prestigious ‘Nelson Mandela Lifetime Achievement Award’ of South Africa for
his contribution to films.
• Olympics gold medalist Neeraj Chopra won a
gold with a throw of 85.97m at the 2024 Paavo Nurmi Games.
• Today is
World Sickle Cell Day.

• The festival of Eid-ul-Adha is
being celebrated with religious fervour and solemnity.
• India's star
opener Smriti Mandhana surpassed 7000 international runs during the first
ODI against South Africa. Mandhana is the second Indian after Mithali Raj to
score 7000 international runs.
• Nine people, including three Railway
employees, have died and about 50 others injured after an express train
collided with a goods train in Darjeeling district of West Bengal this
morning.

• World Blood Donor Day is observed
today. The theme for 2024 is "20 years of celebrating giving: thank you,
blood donors!"
• Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) legislature party leader,
Pema Khandu, on Thursday took oath as chief minister of Arunachal Pradesh
for the third successive term at a ceremony held in the state capital
Itanagar.
• Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived at Brindisi airport in
Italy's Apulia to attend the outreach session of the G7 Summit today.

• Ajit Doval has been reappointed as
the National Security Advisor and PK Mishra as the Principal Secretary to
the Prime Minister with effect from June 10, 2024.
• Saudi Arabia has
decided not to renew its 80-year petrodollar deal with the United States.
This agreement, originally signed on June 8, 1974, had been a key part of US
global economic influence.

• Lt Gen Upendra Dwivedi has been
appointed the next chief of the Indian Army. Lt Gen Dwivedi, who is
currently the Vice Chief of the Army Staff, will take over from General
Manoj C Pande on June 30.
• TDP chief N Chandrababu Naidu take oath as
Andhra Chief Minister for the fourth time today after his party scored a
thumping win in the Assembly polls held alongside the general election.

In Odisha, Mohan Charan Majhi take oath as Chief Minister today in an
ceremony.
• First Session of the 18th Lok Sabha will be convened from the
24th of this month.
• Several Indians were among 49 killed after a fire
broke out in a building housing workers in Kuwait's Mangaf city.

• The BJP has announced Mohan Charan
Majhi as the new Chief Minister of Odisha. The tribal leader is a four-time
MLA.
• Malawi's Vice President Saulos Chilima was killed in a plane
crash. The military plane carrying Chilima, 51, and nine others disappeared
on Monday.
• In athletics, India’s Gulveer Singh has clinched the silver
medal in the Men’s 5000-metre race at the Portland Track Festival
High-Performance Meet in Portland, US.

• Ministries have been allocated to
the 71 ministers who joined Union Government on Sunday. Amit Shah has
retained the Ministry of Home Affairs, and Rajnath Singh has retained the
Defence Ministry in Modi 3.0. Meanwhile, Nitin Gadkari has also retained the
Ministry of Road Transport and Highways.
• Spain’s Carlos Alcaraz Garfia
grabbed his first-ever French Open Men’s singles title at the Roland Garros
in Paris. Alcaraz triumphed over Alexander Zverev of Germany in the final,
6-3, 2-6, 5-7, 6-1, and 6-2.
• In the French Open Tennis Women’s singles
final, World No. 1 Iga Swiatek of Poland beat first-time Italy’s Jasmine
Paolini 6-2, 6-1 at Roland Garris.
• India’s Sumit Nagal clinched the
Heilbronn Neckarcup Challenger in Germany yesterday. He defeated Alexander
Ritschard of Switzerland, 6-1, 6-7, 6-3 in the men’s singles title clash.
This is his 6th ATP Challenger title.
9th June-2024, Current Affairs:
• Prime Minister Narendra Modi took
oath today along with 72 ministers of the new coalition government. Thirty
of them are Cabinet Ministers, five independent charge, and 36 Ministers of
State. The portfolios will be announced later.
• Narendra Modi took oath
for a third consecutive term as Prime Minister. Narendra Modi (73) equalled
the feat of Jawaharlal Nehru, who won three straight terms as India's first
Prime Minister.
• Puja Tomar made history as the first Indian to win a
fight in the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC), defeating Brazil's
Rayanne dos Santos at UFC Louisville 2024.
• Indian Institute of
Technology (IIT) Madras declared the results of JEE Advanced 2024 today.This
year, Ved Lahoti from IIT Delhi zone has topped the examination by securing
355 marks out of 360. Among female candidates, Dwija Dharmeshkumar Patel has
topped with an overall all-India rank of 7. She secured 332 marks out of
360.
5th June-2024, Current Affairs:
• The Election Commission of India has
declared results for 542 of the 543 Lok Sabha constituencies, with the BJP
winning 240 seats and the Congress 99.
• Prime Minister Narendra Modi
today called on President Murmu and tendered his resignation along with the
Union Council of Ministers after the Union Cabinet recommended the
dissolution of the 17th Lok Sabha.
• Narendra Modi is likely to be
sworn-in as the Prime Minister for a third consecutive term on June 8 as the
NDA scraped past the majority mark to win 292 seats.
• World Environment
Day is observed today. This year, the theme of World Environment Day is -
''Land Restoration, Desertification, and Drought Resilience.''
4th June-2024, Current Affairs:
• The counting of votes is underway
for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. The BJP on its own is falling short of the
majority mark of 272. It is currently leading on 234 seats and has won
eight, according to the Election Commission, reducing its 2019 tally, when
it won 303 seats. I.N.D.I.A bloc ahead in 226 seats till now.
• With the
TDP-led alliance heading for a landslide victory with a clear lead in 158
out of 175 assembly constituencies, Telugu Desam Party (TDP) chief N
Chandrababu Naidu will take oath as the new Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh
on June 9.
• In the Odisha Assembly polls, the BJP is leading in 78
seats, the state's ruling BJD in 48 and Congress in 13. While the CPI(M) is
ahead in only 1 seat, the Independents were ahead in 3.
• Claudia
Sheinbaum has been elected the first woman President of Mexico. The
country’s National Electoral Institute announced that Claudia Sheinbaum,
candidate of the ruling Morena party, won the presidential elections with
58.3 to 60.7 percent of the votes.

• Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv
Kumar said that India has created a world record with 64.2 crore voters
participating in the Lok Sabha Polls. Mr Kumar said that the number is 1.5
times of the voters of all G7 countries – US, UK, France, Germany, Italy,
Japan and Canada.
• India will host next year’s annual gathering of the
International Air Transport Association (IATA), which represents over 330
airlines worldwide.
2nd June-2024, Current Affairs:
• The BJP won Arunachal Pradesh, and
is set to come back for a third consecutive term. Meanwhile, the ruling
Sikkim Krantikari Morcha registered a resounding victory in Sikkim,
comfortably surpassing the majority mark over the Sikkim Democratic Front.
According to the Election Commission of India (ECI), the BJP won 38 of 60
seats, having won 10 unopposed earlier, and is leading in 7 others in
Arunachal Pradesh. In Sikkim, incumbent Sikkim Krantikari Morcha won 16 out
of 32 seats and is leading in 15.
• The ICC T20 World Cup 2024 being
jointly hosted by the USA and the West Indies, got underway in USA today.
1st June-2024, Current Affairs:
• India's economy grew 7.8 per cent in
the March quarter, pushing up the annual growth rate to 8.2 per cent,
according to official data released today.
• Voting conducted for the
seventh and final phase of Lok Sabha elections. In this phase polling is
being held in 57 Parliamentary Constituencies spread over seven States and
one Union Territory.
• The National Institute of Mental Health and Neuro
Sciences (NIMHANS) in Bengaluru has been awarded the Nelson Mandela Award
for Health Promotion for 2024 by the World Health Organization (WHO).
