• Air Chief Marshal Rakesh Kumar
Singh Bhadauria took charge as the new Chief of the Indian Air Force (IAF).
• The International Astronomical Union (IAU) has named an asteroid,
discovered in 2006, after Indian classical singer Pandit Jasraj. The
asteroid, or more formally known as a minor planet, is located between Mars
and Jupiter.
• Sumit Nagal has won the men's singles title of ATP
Challenger Tournament at Buenos Aires in Argentina. He defeated Facundo
Bognis in straight-sets 6-4, 6-2.

• Union Defence Minister Rajnath
Singh today commissioned the INS Khanderi in Mumbai, making it the second
Scorpene-class submarine to join the submarine arm of the Indian Navy.

Air Marshal Harjit Singh Arora has been appointed as the new Vice Chief of
Indian Air Force (IAF).
• Wrestler Deepak Punia named world No.1 in 86 kg
category in the latest rankings issued by the International Wrestling
Federation.

• Bulgaria's Kristalina Georgieva has
been selected as the new head of the International Monetary Fund(IMF).

Daughter of former BCCI chief N. Srinivasan, Rupa Gurunath elected unopposed
as president of the Tamil Nadu Cricket Association (TNCA), making her the
first woman to head a state unit of the Indian Board.

• The government has instituted the
highest civilian award for contribution to India's unity and integrity in
the name of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel. The award, comprising a medal and a
citation, would not be conferred posthumously except in very rare and highly
deserving cases.
• Swedish teenage climate activist Greta Thunberg was
named on Wednesday as one of four winners of the 2019 Right Livelihood
Award, known as Sweden's alternative Nobel Prize.
• Reliance Industries’
Chairman Mukesh Ambani has topped the list of richest Indians for the eighth
consecutive year, with a net worth of ₹3,80,700 crore, according to the
latest IIFL Wealth-Hurun India Rich List.

76, will receive India's highest film honour the prestigious Dadasaheb
Phalke Award - this year.
• Barcelona striker Lionel Messi won the FIFA
2019 Men's Player of the Year award. Romanian-born Hungarian forward Daniel
Zsori won the Fifa Puskas Award for the best goal.
• Jammu and Kashmir
has become the first state in the country to issue highest number of golden
cards under Ayushman Bharat-Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB-PMJAY).
• Defending champion Manipur has clinched the title of the 25th Senior
Women's National Football Championship for the 20th time.

• 'Game of
Thrones' won the award for Outstanding Drama Series for its eighth and final
season at 71st Prime Time Emmy Awards. Actor Billy Porter wins the trophy of
best actor in drama for his role in 'Pose'.

• Rahul Aware defeated Tyler Graff of USA 11-4 in men's 61kg World Wrestling

• Bollywood movie "Gully Boy" is
India's official entry for the Oscars. The movie is directed by Zoya Akhtar.
• State Assembly election for Maharashtra and Haryana will be conducted on
October 21 and the results will be out three days later.

• Union Minister for Finance and
Corporate Affairs Nirmala Sitaraman today announced that corporate tax rates
has been slashed to 22% for domestic companies and 15% for new domestic
manufacturing companies.
• India has received first of 36 Rafale fighter
jets from France. The fighter jet was received by Deputy Chief Air Marshal
Chaudhary during his visit to France.
• Bajrang Punia defeated Tulga
Ochir of Mongolia in the men's freestyle 65kg bout to win a bronze medal for
India in the ongoing World Wrestling Championships in Nur-Sultan,
Kazakhstan.
• Amit Panghal (52kg) defeated Kazakhstan's Saken Bibossinov
in the World Boxing Championships semi-final bout to script history by
becoming the first Indian male boxer to reach the final of the prestigious
tournament in Yekaterinburg, Russia.

died this morning at his home in Delhi. He was 95.

• ISRO has lost contact with
Chandrayaan 2’s lander Vikram and rover Pragyan housed inside it minutes
before the planned touch-down. The lander of the lunar craft Chandrayaan-2
snapped its communication with the ground stations just minutes before its
planned soft-landing on the moon early this morning.
• India Red beat
India Green by an innings and 38 runs to clinch the Duleep Trophy title on
the fourth day at Bengaluru.
• Pakistan's master leg-spinner Abdul Qadir
died in Lahore today after suffering from a massive cardiac arrest.

as the new Governor of Maharashtra while former Union Minister Arif Mohammed
Khan will take the responsibility of Kerala governor. Former Union Minister

Pradesh in place of Kalraj Mishra who has been given the charge of Governor
