Assamese Books and Authors

Assamese literature is one of the oldest and richest literary traditions in India, dating back to the 13th century and encompasses a wide range of forms, including poetry, prose, drama, and non-fiction.

The early period of Assamese literature was marked by religious texts, such as the "Kirtan Ghosha" and "Borgeet," which were devotional songs in praise of Lord Vishnu and Lord Siva. During the medieval period, historical chronicles called "Buranjis" and devotional songs called "Padavali" were written.

The modern period of Assamese literature began in the 20th century and saw a wide range of literary forms, including poetry, fiction, drama, and non-fiction. This period also marked the emergence of a new generation of writers who experimented with new forms and themes. Notable figures from this period include Jyoti Prasad Agarwala, Bishnu Prasad Rabha, Hiren Bhattacharya, and Indira Goswami.

Assamese literature reflects the culture, history, and aspirations of the Assamese people and is an important part of the region's cultural heritage.
