Common Law Admission Test (CLAT)

Common Law Admission Test (CLAT) is a centralized examination conducted for admission into 21 National Law Universities in India. CLAT is conducted every year to select students for these 21 National Law Universities in India, other than National Law University-Delhi, which has their own process to select the students. Also some other renowned educational institutes use CLAT scores for admission. The test is conducted by the 21 participating law schools in rotation, in the order of their establishment.

 Eligibity:

For General/OBC/PWD/NRI/PIO/OCI categories candidates, minimum percentage of marks in the qualifying examination (i.e., 10+2 or an equivalent examination) should be forty five percent (45%) marks or its equivalent grade. For candidates belonging to SC/ST categories, minimum percentage should be forty percent (40%) marks or equivalent. There is no upper age limit for in Common Law Admission Test (CLAT).
Candidates who appear in the 10+2 or equivalent exam can also apply in the CLAT exam. However, they shall be required to produce an evidence of their passing the qualifying examination at the time of admission.
Syllabus:
The exam syllabus contains: English including comprehension (40 Marks), General Knowledge and Current Affairs (50 Marks), Mathematics (20 Marks), Legal Aptitude (50 Marks) and Logical Reasoning (40 Marks).
The CLAT exam contains maximum marks of 200. The exam needs to be completed within 120 minutes. The exam includes 200 multiple choice questions with one mark each. Also for each wrong answer there is a negative marking of 0.25 marks.

 How to Apply:

Interested candidates need to apply online for enrollment in Common Law Admission Test (CLAT). The applications has to be submitted online only from clatconsortiumofnlu.ac.in website.
Interested candidates are first required to register themselves at the CLAT website by using personal mobile number and e-mail Id. The candidate shall fill his/her preference order for all 21 NLUs at the time of online application itself. No changes are allowed in the preference once the form is submitted by the candidate. Candidates also need to upload scanned documents like signature, caste certificate, photograph etc. only through online process. All documents/certificates should be uploaded in pdf format only. Applicant should also have to pay application fees via online. Application Fees is non-refundable.
The Admit Card/Hall ticket can be downloaded by the candidate by logging into his/her account once declared.

 Admission Procedure:

CLAT results can be accessed online on the official CLAT website. CLAT also publish the College Allotment List, after which the candidates who have been allotted the seat in an NLU, will be required to pay the counseling fee. The seat allotment of CLAT is done on the basis of merit-cum-preference. This means both CLAT rank and choices opted (in the order of preference) will be considered for allotment. Online counseling starts after the declaration of CLAT results.
