Mamoni Raisom Goswami
• Mamoni Raisom Goswami was an Assamese editor, poet, professor, scholar and writer.
• Mamoni Raisom Goswami original name was Indira Goswami. She was also popularly known as Mamoni Baideo.
• Mamoni Raisom Goswami was born on 14th November 1942 at Amranga in South Kamrup, Assam to Umakanta Goswami and Ambika Devi.
• She received her primary education from Latashil primary school Guwahati and Pine Mount school in Shillong and passed H.S.L.C in 1957. Later she completed her masters in Assamese literature from Guwahati University in 1963 and her doctorate in 1973.
• In 1962, she published her first collection of short stories, "Chinaki Morom", when she was a student.
• Goswami was a patient of depression since her childhood. She married Madhaven Raisom Ayengar, who died in a car accident just 18 months after they had married in 1966.Goswami took to writing to come out of depression. She also started to worked in Sainik School, Goalpara as a teacher.
• Her autobiogrpahy "Adhalekha Dastabez" published in series in weekly newspaper "Nilachal" from 1968 in her pen-name 'Mamoni Raisom Goswami'.
• In 1969, Mamoni Raisom got an invitation from Upendra lekharu to join the Institution of Oriental Philosophy in Brindaban. She wrote a novel on cursed widows in Vrindavan. She involved herself in the studies of Ramayani Literature.
• In 1971 she joined Delhi University as a lecturer of Modern Indian Language.
• She chooses Kandli Ramayana and Tulsi Das's Ramacharit Manas as a subject of her research for comparative study and became Ramayani and started lecturing on Ramayana.
• She was the winner of the Sahitya Akademi Award (1983), the Jnanpith Award (2000).She also received Principal prince Claus Laurate in 2008. In 2002 she received the Padma Shree.
• She wrote famous novels like Chinavar Srota, Neelkanthi Braja, Mamore Dhora Tarowal aru Dukhon Uponyas, Datal Hatir Une Khowa Howda. Her works have been translated into most of the Indian languages.
• The noted litterateur passed away on 29th November 2011 at the age of 69 years.
