• Mount Everest is a peak in the Himalayas mountain range.

• Mount Everest is World's highest mountain above sea level.

• The height of Mount Everest is 29,031.69 feet or 8848.86 meters.

• The summit is the border of Nepal to the south and Tibet, an autonomous region of China on the north.

• The mountain was formed when India’s continental plate colloid with Asia. India’s plate pushed under Asia and raised a huge mass of land upwards, creating the world’s highest mountain range.

• The summit of Everest increases a quarter of an inch each year.

• The Tibetan name for Everest is Qomolangma, which means “Mother Goddess of the World.” In Nepalis, it was called Sagarmatha which means the "God of the Sky".

• It was first identified for the western world by a British survey team lead by Sir George Everest in 1841.

• It was not recognized as the highest mountain on Earth until 1852, when the governmental Survey of India established that fact.

• In 1865, it was named Mount Everest, after Sir George Everest, the British surveyor-general of India from 1830 to 1843.

• In 1955, the height was adjusted to 29,028 feet.

• In 2020, using GPS technology, using a joint measurement by Nepal and China the summit was measured at 29,031.69 feet (8,848.86 m).

• The first attempt to climb Mt. Everest was by a team of British climbers in 1921.

• Mount Everest was first climbed on May 29, 1953, by Sir Edmund Hillary from New Zealand and Tenzing Norgay, a Sherpa from Nepal. They climbed from the south side on a British expedition led by Colonel John Hunt.

• In 1974, no one attempted to climb Mt. Everest. It was the only year in history when nobody climbed Everest since climbing began.

• The first north side summit climbing was done on May 25, 1960. It was done by Nawang Gombu (Tibetan) and Chinese climbers Chu Yin-Hau and Wang Fu-zhou.

• The youngest person to summit was American Jordan Romero, age 13 years 11 months, on May 23, 2010 from the north side.

• The oldest person to summit Mount Everest was Miura Yiuchiro from Japan. She did it at the age of 80 on May 23, 2013.

• Kami Rita has held the record for most ascents to the summit of Mount Everest. As of 2021, he climbed Mount Everest for 25 times.

• The first woman to summit Everest was Junko Tabei of Japan in 1975.

• Reinhold Messner along with Peter Habeler, is the first ascent of Everest without supplemental oxygen. He did it in 1978.
