Q31. In a classroom there are contain number of benches. If 6 students are made to sit on a bench, then to accommodate all of them, one more bench is needed. However if 7 students are made to sit on a bench, then after accomodating all of them, space for 5 students is left. What is the total number of students in the class ?
(a) 52
(b) 57
(c) 61
(d) 72
Answer: (d) 72
Let, the number of bench be x
∴ No. of students = 6(x+1)
A/Q 6(x+1) = 7x - 5
⇒ 6x + 6 = 7x - 5
⇒ x = 11
∴ No. of students = 6 (11 + 1) = 72
Q32. If Rs. 1280 is divided into two parts in which one part is 3/5 of the second, then the smaller part is
(a) 427
(b) 439
(c) 461
(d) 480
Answer: (d) 480
Let the bigger part be x
∴ Smaller part = x X (3/5) = 3x/5
Bigger ÷ Smaller = x ÷ 3x/5
⇒ | Bigger | = | x | = | 5x |
Smaller | 3x/5 | 3x |
∴ Bigger : Smaller = 5 : 3
∴ Smaller part = 3/8 X 1280 = 480
Q33. In an examination, a student was asked to find 2/15 of a number. By mistake he found 2/5 of it. His answer was 100 more than the correct answer. The given number is
(a) 355
(b) 360
(c) 375
(d) 390
Answer: (c) 375
Let, the given number be x
A/Q x X | 2 | - | 2 | X x = 100 |
5 | 15 |
⇒ | 2x | - | 2x | = 100 |
5 | 15 |
⇒ | 6x - 2x | = 100 |
15 |
⇒ 4x = 1500
⇒ x = 1500/4 = 375
Q34. A sum of Rs. 4.50 is made up of 60 coins which are either ten paise or five paise. The number of five paise coins is
(a) 24
(b) 27
(c) 30
(d) 36
Answer: (c) 30
let, the five paise coins be x
∴ No. of ten paise coins be 60 - x
A/Q x X 5 + (60 - x)10 = 4.50 X 100
⇒ 5x + 600 - 10x = 450
⇒ -5x = 450 - 600
⇒ 5x = 150
⇒ x = 30
Q35. A man spends 1/5 of the money with him on clothes, 1/7 of the remaining on food and 1/3 of the remaining on travel. Now, he is left with Rs. 160. How much did he have in the begining ?
(a) Rs. 350
(b) Rs. 375
(c) Rs. 400
(d) Rs. 425
Answer: (a) Rs. 350
Let, in the beiging he have Rs. x
Spent on clothes = x X 1/5 = Rs. x/5
Remaing = Rs. (x - x/5) = Rs. 4x/5
Spent on food = Rs. | 1 | X | 4x | = Rs. | 4x |
7 | 5 | 35 |
Remaining = Rs. ( | 4x | - | 4x | )= Rs. | 28x - 4x | = Rs. | 24x |
5 | 35 | 35 | 35 |
Spent on travel = Rs. | 1 | X | 24x | = Rs. | 8x |
3 | 35 | 35 |
Remaining = Rs. ( | 24x | - | 8x | ) = Rs. | 16x |
35 | 35 | 35 |
A/Q | 16x | = 160 |
35 |
⇒ x = | 160 X 35 | = 350 = Rs. 350 |
16 |
Q36. Ram weights 20 Kg more than Hari. Their combined weight is 140 Kg. How much does Hari's weight ?
(a) 55 Kg
(b) 60 Kg
(c) 70 Kg
(d) 85 Kg
Answer: (b) 60 Kg
Let, Hari's weight be x Kg
∴ Ram's weight be (x + 20) Kg
A/Q x + 20 + x = 140
⇒ 2x = 120
⇒ x = 60 Kg
Q37. Price of 4 pens and 3 pencils is Rs. 330. Two pencils cost as must as one pen. What is the price of one pen and one pencil ?
(a) Rs. 78
(b) Rs. 90
(c) Rs. 98
(d) Rs. 105
Answer: (b) Rs. 90
1 pen = 2 pencils
⇒ 4 pen's = 8 pencils
4 pens + 3 pencils = Rs. 330
⇒ 8 pencils + 3 pencils = Rs. 330
⇒ 11 pencils = Rs. 330
⇒ 1 pencil = Rs. 30
∴ 1 pen = 2 pencils = Rs. 2 X 30 = Rs. 60
∴ Price of (1 pen + 1 pencil) = Rs. 60 + 30 = Rs. 90

(a) 15
(b) 16
(c) 20
(d) 22
Answer: (c) 20
Let, the no. of boys be x
∴ No. of girls be (50 - x)
A/Q 6x + 5(50 - x) = 270

Let the cost of CD be Rs. x
∴ Cost of TV be Rs. (x + x X (5/2)) = Rs. (x + 5x/2) = Rs. 7x/2
A/Q x + 7x/2 = 45000
⇒ 9x/2 = 45000
⇒ x = (45000 X 2)/9 = Rs. 10,000
